Advent and Christmas part two

The children in KS1 have been hard at work making Advent Wreaths this week.

Advent and Christmas part one

We have been exploring the meaning of Advent over the past week and looking at the promises that God had made about the Messiah.

We have been also been considering the relevance of a new star that appeared in the sky and how this led to certain people to giving up their home comforts and setting of on a long journey.

At the same time we have been preparing the school for Christmas, decorating our school halls, getting ready for our Christmas productions, learning new songs and at the same time taking a few moments each day to pause and reflect about the true meaning of the baby that was laid in a manger.

It's a hectic time, but it always brings many great memories for us as a school community.

Children in need day

Today we have been joining together to raise funds for Children in Need, by having a non uniform day. Our assembly helped us to reflect on the excellent work that the charity does and to consider the difference that everyone can make by just giving a little.

All of this built on our assembly theme of the week, which has  led us to the final part of our journey with Moses. The giving of the ten commandments is a significant part of the Old Testament, something which Jesus summed up in the following words:

Loving you neighbour is what Children in Need is all about, a great practical example of putting this command into practice. Something the whole school joined together for today.

Our morning started with our normal wake and shake activity lead by Mrs B, which got us into the groove for the day.

Year 3 art gallery

Another World War two leader has been added to the display, this time its Charles de Gaulle. Well done year 3!

Inspiration

I was struck over the weekend that those who have inspired me in life are people that are very important in my memories. People who have given me a word of encouragement at the right time, have shown patience when I needed it, have valued what I had to say or have brought light into the situation I was struggling with. Sometimes they didn't even know they were doing it, but they still made a difference.

So we started our week by pausing to remember, those who through their actions and words have inspired or encouraged us.

A time to reflect and to be thankful.

Inspiration

Thank you for that word
That look, that smile
Thank you for that moment
That pause, that time
Thank you for that thought
That chance, that chink of light
Thank you for believing
For your patience
For your faith
Thank you for your inspiration
The hope that you brought
And the difference you made
Thank you, just for being you

Poppies and a time to remember

We took the time today to join together to be silent and remember.

At the 11th hour,of the 11th day on the 11th month, we stood to remember those who had given so much.

And around school there were poppies everywhere!
