Year 6 egg challenge

Year 6 pupils have been creatively involved in an egg design competitions  and the results have been pretty amazing - so much excellence and creativity, how we ever managed to judge a winner I will never know!

Well done to everyone involved, an fantastic display to round off the spring term.

Easter journey

As we draw close to the end of this academic term we have come to the end of our Easter journey. Today the children have actively participated in this journey by ‘travelling’ back in time to meet characters who played significant parts in the original Easter story.  This event has been organised by school staff with help from local churches and has enabled the children to hear first-hand about what happened on Palm Sunday, at the last supper, in the garden of Gethsemane and at the Cross. In addition we have also gathered together in church to celebrate the resurrection part of the Easter story and to give thanks for all the amazing things that the Easter story teaches us about God’s love for us.

Many thanks to everyone who has helped to make this happen, it is always one of the highlights of our school year.

Light over darkness

Today we took time to light a candle in assembly and to stop and remember those affected by the events in Brussels yesterday.

As we draw close to the end of our Easter journey as a school, we reminded ourselves that the Easter story is about light overcoming darkness, of love overcoming division and of hope restoring what has been lost.

Our thoughts and prayers were with the families and individuals who have been so affected by these sad events.

As we sat silently we listened to the Chris Tomlin song that reminds us of the fact that God seeks to shine into the darkness.

May his light shine where it is so clearly needed at this time.

Year 6 pond dipping

Yesterday year 6  had great fun in the spring sunshine, enjoying spotting the orange tummies on the spotted newts, and looking at all the others insects in the new ponds. 6M were particularly taken with the blood worms, wondering whose blood it actually was!

STEAM print 3D

Yesterday a group of year 5 children had the amazing experience of visiting the STEAM workshops at New Walk Museum. The workshops provided children with the opportunity to explore and learn about 3D printing, as well as take the time to be influenced by Picasso!

Initially we spent some time in the Attenborough Picasso collection, seeking ideas and influence for our own design. We then met with the design team to consider how we could produce our own Picasso picture, using 3D technology.

We used a variety of methods to produce our design ideas, these were then scanned and transferred to the 3D printers. We then watched with amazement how these produced 3D replicas!

Finally we brought our ideas together to produce our own Picasso work of art.

A truly memorable experience.

Sports relief day

Today the school has entered into the fundraising spirit by engaging in the Sports relief charity day.

Lots of fun in the playground, sponsored runs around the field, dancing in classrooms, wake and shake and as ever the varied display of football shirts.

A really positive and fun atmosphere all around the school.

3S class assembly on the Rainforest

Today we were treated to a wonderful class assembly all about the Rainforest. We discovered lots of amazing facts, got to meet loads of the animals whose habitat the Rainforest is, and we also learnt about sustainability and the choices that we can make in light of this. The class had produced some incredible face masks and costumes to help with the delivery of their assembly, they spoke with confidence and delivered some of their lines with humour - a laughing hyena stating facts about the rainforest is something not to be missed.

It was great to see so many parents and family members join us and I am sure it is an assembly that will remain a talking point for days to come.  Well done to everyone involved.

4K and the borrowers

Class 4K have been using their IT skills to create a fantastic representation of what it would be like to be a Borrower! This has involved them building their own Borrower homes and then integrating their green screen skills to produce an image of them, the size of a borrower, in their creations. great fun!

A question of forgiveness

In 5W this afternoon we took some time to think about three incredible stories about forgiveness.

We looked at the life stories of Corrie Ten Boom, Nelson Mandela and Peter, the disciple of Jesus.

As we explored these stories and thought about the challenge that forgiveness brings, we came up with some individual words that spoke to us about the power of forgiveness.
